BED & BREAKFAST GROUP ESTABLISHES SCHOLARSHIP

Local Students Considering Career in Hospitality Industry Encouraged to Apply

The Open Door Bed & Breakfasts Inn The White Mountains have elected to officially change its name. The group will now operate under the name: Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley.

"We hope that our new name will better reflect our place and purpose to the public, and clarify our outreach to the community and prospective new members", said Les Schoof of the Notchland Inn.

Under the new name, Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley has proudly expanded their mission to include an annual scholarship for a worthy student at Kennett High School. The first Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley Scholarship, for a student pursuing a higher education in the hospitality field, will be awarded this spring. The selection will be conducted by the Dollars for Scholars of Mount Washington Valley, of which Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley is a proud program sponsor. The amount of the scholarship will be $500 and may be matched if the school selected by the recipient student is associated with the Dollars for Scholars Program.

Originally formed in the spring of 1991 by several Bed & Breakfast establishments throughout the Mount Washington Valley, the group called The Open Door Bed & Breakfasts Inn the White Mountains incorporated in the spring of 1997. Their combined effort was meant to exemplify congenial hospitality with high standards of customer service and quality product for guests of the Mount Washington Valley. By networking rather then going it alone, members were able to share ideas and problem solve.  Their high standards of personalized attention and traditional New England hospitality are the cornerstone of each of these unique inns scattered throughout the Mt. Washington Valley.  Another benefit afforded them is the expansion of marketing opportunities.  Their informative brochure showcases each inn and is distributed to approved sites and travel shows; something that would have been unattainable if done individually.

"We are interested in other Inns joining our organization" states Jessica Zarenko, from Cabernet Inn and current President of Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley.  "An inn located in the Fryeburg Maine area might enable us to offer a Fryeburg Academy student eligibility for a hospitality scholarship in the future."

Ten members make up Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley at present; starting in Shelburne with the Mt Washington B&B, Notchland Inn in Harts Location, Covered Bridge House in Glen, Cabernet Inn in Intervale, and Buttonwood Inn, Cranmore Inn, Farm by the River B&B, Nereledge Inn, Wyatt House Country Inn, and Spruce Moose Lodge, all of North Conway. The 1st Annual Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley Hospitality Scholarship will be partially funded through money raised from the groups seasonal events, which include March Maple Madness in the spring, a maple sugaring scavenger hunt and the trick or treat Ghost & Goblin Trail in the fall.

Membership to Bed & Breakfasts Inn Mount Washington Valley is not limited but there are qualifying criteria. To learn more about this non-profit organization or their events, go to http://www.bbinnsmwv.com.
